Seeds!
As a gift to you, as a thank you for celebrating our day with us, we have arranged for everyone to take home some seeds, harvested by hand directly from our garden. We hope that these seeds bloom, and the resulting food or flowers remind you of how much we love and appreciate you.
You can discover which seeds you have and how to best cultivate them below, using the number stamped on the seed packet. Happy gardening!
Types of seeds
Seed Type 1
Chili 'Golden Habañero'
These seeds will produce a large plant that will give you a beautiful harvest of golden orange spicy hot chilies. Be careful! They are delicious but they are HOT!
To grow, sow the seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost date, and keep them warm at around 24-30 °C for 14 to 21 days. When the weather is consistently above 15 °C, transplant them into larger pots outdoors (or find a sunny windowsill). Harden off the plants by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions before planting them in a sunny location with well-drained soil; space the plants 45-60 cm apart, and harvest the peppers in autumn.
Seed Type 2
Basil 'Genovese'
These seeds will produce some delicious fresh summery basil, fantastic in salads and pesto.
Theses seeds should be sown in to individual pots in spring, and harvested from June to October. Keep them in a sunny window, and harvest leaves regularly so that the plant keeps producing delicious basil!
Seed Type 3
Celtuce 'Chinese Club'
An unusual tall leafy salad vegetable, Celtuce stalk and leaves are both delicious. The stalk is really good when sliced and pickled!
For optimal germination, sow these seeds during February, March, or April, maintaining a planting distance of approximately 30 cm, and expect to harvest in July, August, or September, ensuring not to cover them with soil after sowing—just press lightly, and harvest when the stems reach 2 to 3 cm thick, or you can also harvest them as leaf lettuce in the rosette stage.
Seed Type 4
Sunflowers 'Snack'
These sunflower seeds produce beautiful big yellow flowers that will produce seeds suitable for replanting, or roasting for a delicious healthy snack!
To successfully grow these seeds, plant them in rows spaced 40 cm apart, at a depth of 2 to 3 cm, during the months of April, May, or June; expect yellow flowers to bloom from July to September, with a germination time of 7 to 14 days at temperatures between 15°C and 25°C, and maintain a planting distance of approximately 30 cm.
Seed Type 5
Marigold 'Starfire'
These marigold seeds will bloom with pretty yellow flowers that can either be used for herbal tea, or to add some colour to a garden salad.
To grow marigolds, start by sowing the seeds in pots and keep at at least 21 °C for 7 to 14 days; plant the seeds about 1 cm deep and space them approximately 20-30 cm apart. When the weather is consistently warm, they can be moved outside. Marigolds thrive in full sun and well-drained soil, so choose a sunny location, and water regularly.
